    I have the Gearwrench indexing pry bar that is slightly smaller, around 3 foot. One thing I don’t like about it, it deflects/bends quite a bit. It’s still a handy tool and worth the price, I just wish it could handle some the heavier duty jobs.

    Since I'm pretty easy on my tools at work and rarely break anything the majority of the time I won't buy from tool trucks. Companies like Tekton, Capri, Koken, and multiple other companies that sell direct to consumer got me covered. Typically, I don't even think about warranty when I buy tools. I will admit, I dropped major coin on my full set of Snap-on retaining ring pliers that I do break from time to time for the lifetime warranty and the convenience factor. My buddy is a Snap-On dealer.

    I have the gear wrench indexing pry bars. I love them. But none of them are that big. I also have the large lang brake tool. Nice and smooth compresses the piston without breaking things. With a tool truck you are paying for convenience and service. If you are replacing or buying tools you aren’t making money. Time is money. Wasting time is wasting money. Lang Lisle and Astro are awesome tool brands. Never had a bad tool from any of them.

    Hey Lyndsay! Off topic for this vid but, I thought you might know if this is common...I picked up a Gearwrench 84 piece Allen/Torx set. A LOT of the bits seem to be set into the socket crooked. Not a big deal if Im using hand tools, but they get pretty wobbly when spinning them on an impact (yeah I know lol) anyway, is this a rare problem. How often if at all do you see that? Ok, thanks for responding! Do you think that would be a warranty thing?... If you go onto Amazon and read the comments, that's pretty much the only complaint, and there's definitely a few (pics in comments as well). That and the case, which I think is actually pretty good. It's not something most people would notice unless you looked for it, but when I did, there was between 5 -10 of them that were pretty crooked and not seated all the way down. I didn't think I'd find any, but I did. I like GW and love the kit, so I'd like to just swap them out if I can. There's a couple of tool places near me that carry GW sooo🤷‍♂️ I tried putting them in a vice to seat them straight, but they don't budge!

    • @CoyleTools
      @CoyleTools 18 днів тому

      @@cblack1863 You now know first-hand why I advise people to NOT buy on Amazon. You received a defective set of tools that were most likely not purchased from the seller through a legitimate distribution channel. You can try to contact the seller and Apex Tool Group (GW's parent company) for warranty service, but it pains me to say the odds are stacked against you in getting a satisfactory resolution. This is why you should only buy from a reputable retailer who will stand behind your purchases with full after-sale service and support. Yes, you will pay more, but faced with this issue, how much would that be worth to you?

    • @cblack1863
      @cblack1863 14 днів тому

      True that man, lesson learned. I did purchase from an Amazon affiliate that has a 30 day return policy. That was a couple weeks ago or so, so I'll try to return them. I'm just concerned because I saw quite a few comments stating the same thing, but I rolled the dice and shouldn't have. I also have the VIM 77 pc kit, so I'll use that in the mean time. Anyhow, thank you for taking the time to reply, I wish I had someone like yourself to purchase this brand from, but in Canada they're few and far between for GW. Streamlight today - just another example of why your customers are loyal ( and why non truck folks don't understand ). I'll sell you what you want even after informing you why other considerations may be better. ND still help you after you've maybe made an unwise choice.

    Bondhus Hex wrenches are good, but a little soft under heavy use. This is good because it is better to strip the wrench than the screw in my opinion. Once you strip the wrench, you know you must be careful removing the screw. Swiss PB hex wrenches are the hardest I've ever used and do come in handy for stubborn screws before resorting to the drill or chisel. I worked with a ton of hex head screws for 26 years at a newspaper, so I didn't have rust to worry about. I wore out two 13mm combination wrenches over the years, a Thorsen and an Armstrong before biting the bullet and getting a Snap-On. No RBRT stuff back then, 1980 to 2006. I would have gotten those in an instant. Currently I have 20 hex wrench sets in my box, not counting the smaller sets.

      @@CoyleTools You ain't kidding. Short and long square ends, short and long ball ends, short "L" ended sets, extra long sets, Tee handled sets, hex socket sets, got 'em all. The mechanics (I was just an operator) used to hit me up when they didn't have the right configuration wrench.

    It sounds like you have experience with both brands that I am interested in, Tool Vault & Extreme and I have a couple of questions for you please. 1)- Assuming that I am looking at their top of the line boxes, is there really much of a difference between the two quality/build wise? When looking at the Stricktly Toolboxes website it seems that the Extreme has thicker gauge steel but both weigh a TON! I really like the 72 inch x 30 inch, green Tool Vault but the pricing difference might be offset by the difference in quality. 2)- Do you have pros/cons of working with a hutch vs. a top box drawer unit? I REALLY like the look of the hutch but am looking at a moving to a larger box because I have seriously outgrown my current box. I don't want to spend all that money just to get back into the same situation. Thanks in advance!

    • @CoyleTools
      @CoyleTools 22 дні тому

      I have not seen a quality difference between the two, but my sample size is small since there aren't as many Tool Vaults in shops, but those I have seen are used by diesel techs and are heavy duty enough to hold a lot of weight and some very large tools. Hutch vs. top box is strictly preferential. It depends on whether you want to keep the top of your box as a lockable work surface or if you want the additional drawer space. If you get a hutch and find you need more drawer space later, you can always get a cart or something similar. But if you get a top box and decide you want a lockable work surface, there isn't a great option for that.

      @@CoyleTools I know this is an old vid but I just saw it today. Thank you SO much for the quick reply! Appreciate the feedback about Tool Vault. For some reason I am REALLY liling the 30 inch depth (I know the drawers aren't that deep?) I think this really helps with storage issues. If the Icon was 30" deep I would probably have one by now. Love the quality that I see in the stores. Opinions on Tool Vault vs Icon quality?

      @@philmcginnis2373 They seem comparable to me. Between the two brands, there are at least a half dozen I see in use everyday, and have been for at least four or five years. A couple of those for much longer. They have held up well. I don't think you can lose with either brand. With all brands of tool boxes, the best way to treat them is to keep the drawer slides clean. Dirty, gummy slides is easily the most common problem I see. It results in the ball bearings falling out and the slides sticking, requiring replacing the slides.
